As a born and raised Michigan girl, I have grown up with cold snow all my life. Some people would think that winter would be some Michiganders favorite season. Well, for this troll it is not. I do not like the feeling of being cold with my soaking wet clothes from the falling snow and I do not like having a cherry red face with the cold wind blustering up against it. While I do not enjoy the weather this tiringly long season brings, I do enjoy some of the little things I am able to do while still staying warm. Many of my close friends know this but I am a huge tea drinker! I love all kinds of tea, hot or cold, but something about enjoying a big cup of warm tea inside during the winter months makes it even that much better. I typically prefer tea over coffee; however, every now and then I will enjoy a good latte, mocha, or anything that I feel like is so sugar filled I can barely taste the bitter coffee taste after each sip. One place I particularly enjoy is this small coffee shop in my hometown called, Ponder Coffee Company. Not only do I love there Chi Tea Lattes or their Lavender Vanilla Latte but they make some of the best waffles too! So, if you ever find yourself in the mid-Michigan area on a freezing cold day I would recommend giving them a try! As I mentioned before I hate the feeling of being cold, so I would find it only natural to understand what may be an unhealthy obsession with blankets. My boyfriend thinks I am silly to have so many but who does he come to when he is cold? Me of course. I once counted how many blankets I had, which I will spare myself the jokes now and keep that to myself, but I can't beat the feeling of being cozied up in my bed without a care in the world. The soft sent of candles is another love of mine for the winter season. During the holiday I received so many yummy scented candles that I have to remind myself not to light all at once to avoid a sent barrage or a crazy headache. I have always loved the scent of candles. In fact, I have distinct memories growing up and taking trips to the pharmacy with my grandmother where they had a large display of different scented candles by the checkout. While she was checking out at the counter one time I took it upon myself to try and smell every different scent of candle they had on the display to try and find the best scent. Possibly, needless to say, I remember leaving not finding my favorite scent but learning a hard lesson to never smell all the candles on display as it would lead to, which seemed like, a never-ending headache. Thinking I would never be able to smell candles again after that, here I am writing to you all with my favorite marshmallow scented candle burning on my desk beside me. While winter may not be my favorite season, I enjoy the memories it sparks and the little things I feel I can enjoy to their fullest with the colder weather. So, I challenge everyone to find something they might enjoy out of something that may not be so enjoyable and hold onto those things as long as you can.
